Farm Large Motor Ideas

 

 

Farm Animal Antics

Head on over to the farm for some animal "moo-vements" sure to make your youngsters quack up!
 Encourage little ones to gallop like horses on all fours, then stop to shake flies off their tails. 
 Or choose from the following list of farm animal antics.  It's a hop hop here, and  a kick, kick there....

Waddle like a duck.
Waddle.

Roll in the mud like a pig.
 Lie on floor; roll.
Kick like a mule.
With hands on floor, kick feet in air.
Strut like a turkey. 
Walk with hands tucked under armpits.
Hop like a bunny. 
Hop on all fours.
Stand like an ostrich.
Stand on one foot; tuck head.

 

Galloping Horses

Have children pretend to be horses galloping all around the room to music.



Horse Corral

Make a “Horse Corral” outside. Children pretend to be horses.

 

Stick Horse Races

Ride  stick horses! Have a race. Line the children up at opposite ends
 of the playground. Drop a red bandana to signal the start of the race.

 

Horse Stamping

Ask the children if they have ever seen a horse stamp its foot.  Allow a few of the children
 to demonstrate.  Tell the children that, as you call out a number, they are to stamp their
 feet that number of times.  Call out several numbers to the children. Encourage them
 to have extra fun by making horse noises as they stamp.

 

Stick Horse Races

Enlarge a picture of a horse's head and neck onto a sheet of 12x18 paper.
  Add eyes, nose, mouth.  Cut out 2 of these heads.  Hole punch a row a holes
 along where the horse's mane will be.  Tie 6" pieces of thick yarn to each hole
 to be the mane.  Glue to a yardstick along the mane.  Name the horse and prin
t the name on the stick.  Practice galloping on your horse.  Hold horse races!!

Animal Movement Transition Time

During transition time encourage the children to imitate different farm
animals.  They may gallop like a horse, hop like a bunny,
 waddle like a duck, move like a snake, etc.

 

Horse Movement

Have children move like a horse according to the
 tempo of some instrumental music.-walk, trot, gallop, etc.



Ring the Bell

Hang cowbells from the ceiling in an out of the way place.
Provide bean bags for the children to toss and ring the bells.
