 Spread a slice with
peanut butter and top with a second slice to form a sandwich.

Applesauce

For each quart of peeled and sliced apples, add:
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp. lemon juice
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
pinch of salt

Cook until tender. Mash apples with a potato masher or electric mixer.
Add more sugar, if needed. Serve cold.

All Day Applesauce

2 pounds (960 g) Granny Smith apples, cored and cut into 1/2-inch thick slices

1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons (60 ml) fresh lemon juice
6 1/4-cup (20 g) scoops fat-free, no-sugar-added vanilla frozen yogurt
grated nutmeg

Lay apple slices in a 3-quart (3-liter) or larger crockery slow cooker.
Combine sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over apples and drizzle with lemon juice.
Cover and cook on low for 6 1/2 to 8 hours. To serve, spoon hot apples into 6 dessert
dishes. Top each with a scoop of frozen yogurt. Lightly sprinkle with nutmeg and serve.

Individual Apple Pies

Ready-made pie crust (the kind that comes packaged flat in the dairy case)
Canned apple pie filling

Have each child cut out two large circles of pie crust (using a large, round cookie
cutter or a large plastic drinking cup).  Put a spoonful of pie filling in the middle of one circle.
Place the second dough circle on top. Use a fork to crimp the edges and pierce a few holes
in the top to allow steam to escape. Bake in a toaster oven 10-15 minutes or until brown.

Ants on a Log

Celery sticks
Peanut butter
Raisins

Wash the celery and cut it into pieces about 5 inches long. Spread peanut butter in the
u-shaped part of the celery, from one end to the other. Press raisins into the peanut butter.

Ants in the Sand

2 Graham crackers
Chocolate sprinkles

Place graham crackers in a plastic sandwich bag and  crush with a rolling pin.
Add a few chocolate sprinkles to make ants, then seal the bag. Give them to the
kids to take outside and eat or let them pour it into a small bowl and eat at the table--
using their fingers, of course.  Variations: Add raisins (call them beetles),
red hots (ladybugs) or mini chocolate chips (spider eggs).

Animals In Cages

Give each child a bunch or pretzels, PNB, gumdrops, or
frosting to build animal cages, then give them animal crackers
to put in the cage.  Works well if each child has their own paper
plate and can use the PNB or frosting to stand their animals in.

Astronaut Pudding

Put both ingredients into a zip-type bag. Close the bag securely. Gently knead mixture
