Mother's Day: Science

Silhouettes

Use black paper and chalk. Have them sit very still while you use the light from an overhead projector
to trace around the outline of their heads on black construction paper. Cut these out and mount on white
paper.  Below each silhouette write the following poem:

Beyond the shadow of a doubt,
You're the greatest mom about!

Guess Who's Mommy?

Ask the parents to bring in pictures of each child's mommy as children.  Create a bulletin board
with these photos. See if the kids can match the  moms' photos to the correct classmate. It may help
to have pictures of the children as well. This promotes an understanding of growing up and the aging process.

A Marigold for Mom

Grow Marigolds and attach this poem and give to MOM

This flower is for you, Mom
    It's a marigold, you see.
It's growing more and more each day,
    It's really just like me!

So, I'm giving you this flower,
With a note that's oh so true.
And when you watch this flower grow,
    You'll remember, "I love you."

Grow Flowers for Mom

Get a clay flower pot and have the kids paint or decorate it.
Either buy  some flowers or flower seeds and plant.
Have the kids take care of their plant until it is time to present it to their moms.
