Frizzled Day

Children can wear clothing that is opposite to the way they are on a normal day. 
Children can wear clothing inside out, one pants leg long and the other leg short, different shoes,
 hats backward, or other opposite ways.  Children can share their frizzled outfits and talk about opposites.

Opposites

Above your head, let your hands go CLAP!
Down on the floor, let your feet go TAP!
Turn around, first fast then slow.
Jump up high, now bend down low.
Lift your arms up in the air.
Shake them, shake them everywhere.
Turn around again for me.
Now sit down quietly.
Sit up tall.  Smile this way.
Now it's time to start your day.

Opposites Song

(Sung to the tune of: "Jingle Bells")

Hot and Cold, New and Old
Opposites I know.
Fat and Thin, Out and In,
Top and Bottom, High and Low.

Smile and Frown, Up and Down,
Loud and Quiet sounds.
Wet and Dry, Hello, Good-bye.
And the shapes of Square and Round.

Stop/Go

Play this opposites game with your children.  Children can wave hands when you say "go" and stop waving
  when you say "stop."  Make up other movements for children to do when you say "go" and "stop."

A Circle

This is a wonderful activity song to use while transitioning to group time.

Around in a circle we will go.
Little tiny baby steps,
Make us go very slow.
And then we'll take some giant steps
As big as they can be.
Then in our circle we will sit quietly.

Chart Opposites

Discuss opposites with children.  As children name opposites,
write their words on chart paper.  Read the chart with the children.

Simon Says

Play Simon Says with the children.  Use opposite words (up/down,
 open/close, over/under, quiet/noisy) as you call out Simon Says commands.

Opposites Game

Let the children practice demonstrating up/down, open/close,
over/under, quiet/noisy, above/below, loud/soft, and fast/slow.
