Hooray For The USA!

I took a blue backing paper, a flag border and some great USA themed
scrapbook paper and cut out "Hooray for the USA!". I will affix my
children's work from the week to this bulletin board. Very simple.

American Flag Bulletin Board

I made a huge flag that I hung on the wall.  The children helped me paint/color the stripes
(I cover the white stripes with an additional strip of paper so I wouldn't have to worry about
them being over zealous and coloring it all red.  When we were done I removed the strips
and had the red and white stripes.  Next, we taped a large blue square in the corner.
I then divided the 50 star stickers amongst the class and had them place them on the blue field.

I Spy Our Flag

To prepare, sketch the American flag on a large piece of white bulletin board paper sized to fit
your display case.  Die-cut 50 white paper stars. Gather red, white, and blue Christmas tree
garland or shiny, shredded gift bag filler and a large supply of red and white objects, such as crayons,
plastic silverware, gift bows, toy cars, small counters, LEGO blocks, colored toothpicks, or milk jug
lids.  Make a list of the objects to post in the display.  To decorate the flag, paint one stripe or section
at a time with glue.  Have the children place appropriate color of garland or gift bag filler on the glue.
Tape or glue the stars to the blue section of the flag.  Hang the flag in the display case and
then use tape, glue, or pushpins to attach the small items to the flag. I spy a beautiful flag!

Star Spangled Display

In advance, create a supply of red rigatoni pasta by combining one box of rigatoni, one-eighth cup
of red food coloring, and one half cup of rubbing alcohol in a resealable plastic bag.  Allow the pasta
to sit for five minutes, turning the bag every minute to evenly coat the pasta.  Lay the pasta on a brown
paper bag and allow it to dry completely.  Next, program a class supply of 8 " x 10" white tag board
pieces with the an American Flag pattern.  Give each child a piece of tag board and 27 pieces of pasta.
Instruct the child to glue the pasta onto every other stripe on the flag.  Then give each child a 3" x 4" piece
of blue construction paper and 13 silver star stickers.  Explain to your class that the first American flag
had 13 stars on it to represent the 13 colonies. Direct each child to place his/her stickers onto his/her
construction paper piece and then glue it in the upper left corner of the flag.  Display
the flags on a bulletin board with the title "Hooray for the Red, White, and Blue!"

Bubble Wrap Flags Window Display

To prepare, cut a large rectangular piece of bubble wrap for each child.  Next, mix a little liquid dish
soap with red and blue fingerpaint (approx. 1 part soap with 3 parts fingerpaint.)
Have each child fingerpaint red stripes and blue rectangle on the wrap to resemble an
American flag.  When the paint is dry, have the child add foil star stickers to the blue rectangle.
Use loops of clear packing tape to display the flags in a window.  Then add red
and blue cellophane stars around the flags to complete is translucent display.

Hooray for Independence Day

Celebrate Independence day with this dazzling display. Have each child paint and cut out his/her own
American flag to put on a bulletin board.  Then make fireworks by tracing a child's hand's three times on
white paper.  Cut out the tracings; then squeeze glue onto the palm and fingers of each cutout.  Sprinkle
glitter over the glue and shake off excess.  Display the cutouts in clusters to resemble fireworks.
