Dress Up

Have the children create their own leprechaun beards and hats to
pretend they are leprechauns.

St. Patrick's Day Dramatic Play Ideas

Leprechaun Costume

I put out some hats that I got from Oriental trading a few years back.
You could also make one using a white bowl with the little brim,
let the kids decorate them or paint them green, punch a whole on
two sides and put that rope elastic stuff to use to go under the neck
to hold them on. You could put belts and boots in the area.
You could also put anything green for them to wear.

Pretend Irish Soup

You could also put a black or green kettle in the kitchen area and maybe a
recipe card with pictures for them to make Irish soup with play food like
potatoes, carrots, etc. Put green plates (paper) and cups, pot holders, etc.
for them to play with. You could even put a green piece of material or a pretty
one with shamrocks on it for them to use as a table cloth or for a pretend picnic.

Leprechaun Hats

I bought a bunch of those cheap leprechaun hats at Wal-Mart and added them to our hat box.

Bucket of Gold Coins

I also brought out my witch's cauldron from Halloween to store our
gold coins in.  The gold coins are circular yellow felt bean bags.
