Beach Large Motor Ideas

Beach Towel Boogie

Have each child bring a beach towel and this is their spot for doing different activities,
some were coloring, some were lacing fish, etc. Tell the  children to listen because
when the music starts they get up and dance. When  it stops they go back to doing
their activity. Put some Beach Boy (or other surfing type music on) and have fun!

Beach Ball Fun

Place two beach balls of different sizes on a small blanket while several
children hold the sides of the blanket and make the beach balls move up and
down like popcorn popping or roll them from side to side by moving their arms.

Beach Ball Parachute Fun

For beach we blew up 2 beach balls and used them on our parachute.
We would try to bounce them off.  The children love this activity
and want to do it over and over.  It is so simple, but a sure winner. Let the
children roll the beach ball back and forth and all around the parachute.

Having Fun With Beach Ball

Give your children a beach ball to play with! Play catch!

Baby Gate Beach Ball

If you have a baby gate...use it as a volleyball net and play
beach ball in sandbox.  That is, if your sandbox is large enough!

Beach Ball Bowling

Gather ten empty plastic two liter bottles to be used as bowling pins.
Assemble the bottles in a triangle, as you would the pins for a traditional
bowling game.  Have each child take a turn rolling a beach ball from a
designated line in an attempt to knock down the pins. Give each child
two turns, if needed, and have him/her count how many pins he/she knocked down.

Roll The Beach Ball

Sit with the children and slowly roll a beach ball back and forth. For older
children, try rolling two or three beach balls at a time in a circle of children.

Beautiful Day At the Beach

Have each child bring in a favorite beach towel to make this movement
activity seem more like a real day at the beach! Ask everyone to spread
their towels in a large open area.  Then say, "It's a beautiful day at the
beach. Let's go swimming!"  Have children pantomime running into the waves
and swimming through the water.  Then invite them to head back to their towels
to take a rest.  Next say, "It's a beautiful day at the beach. Let's go fishing!"
Have the children stand up, bait their hooks, and cast their imaginary fishing
lines out into the water.  Of course, everyone will catch a giant fish and
struggle to reel it in.  After they take another rest on their beach towels, make
more suggestions for beach activities, such as jogging, surfing, or playing ball.
