The Summer Sun

Brightly shines the summer sun
And clouds float calmly by.
Summertime is so much fun
As we watch birds in the sky.

Brightly shines the summer sun
while beach balls bounce on by.
Summertime is so much fun
Building sandcastles up so high.
Brightly shines the summer sun
while we eat our picnic lunch.
Here come the ants to munch!

Wally's Beach Walk

Read the poem aloud to children.  Ask them to listen for the things that don't
 belong on the beach.  Read the poem again.  Stop after each list of things
 Wally saw.  What is one silly thing?  You may wish to substitute a child's
 name for Wally's name.  The child who is the subject of the poem gives a
 list of three things he or she saw at the beach.  The child must include one silly thing

Wally walked to the beach
And what did he see?
Straw hats, swimmers, and a Christmas tree.
Wally saw water, snowmen, and boats,
He noticed sea gulls, crabs, and goats.

Wally walked to the beach
And what did he see?
Lifeguards, tigers, and people's bare feet.
He spotted dinosaurs, sand castles, and rocks,
Beach umbrellas, sandals, and sheep in flocks.

Wally walked to the beach
And what did he see?
Turkeys, sunscreen, and a buzzing bee.
He walked home from the beach
And what did he say
He saw on the beach that summer day?

Wally said in show and tell
To the kids at school,
"I saw on the beach
a big wave - way cool!
A volleyball net and a
Halloween ghoul."

What did each kid say
About what Wally did see?
"Wally, the beach walker,
You can't fool me!"
