Turkey Tracks
Hot
glue cork strips in the shape of turkey toes to the bottom of an old pair
of shoes.
Then roll out a length of bulletin board paper and prepare a large,
shallow container
with a thick layer of paper towels in the bottom. Pour in some
tempera paint to
create a giant sized stamp pad. One at a time, have a child put on
the shoes and
step carefully into the container. Then have her step onto the paper
and walk its
length. Be sure to hold the child's hand as she walks to prevent her from
slipping.
From Pumpkins
To Pies
To
prepare for this movement activity, create a pretend pie crust by placing
a parachute or large sheet on the floor of your classroom. Seat the
children
around the parachute crust. Choose five children to be pretend
pumpkins and
have them sit on the edge of the curst. As you recite the following
pumpkin
countdown, direct each little pumpkin in turn to tumble into the crust.
Continue until each child has had a turn.
(Five)
orange pumpkins sitting on the ground.
One rolled over and tumbled all around.
(He) opened up (his) eyes.
What a big surprise!
My, oh, my!
(He) was in a pumpkin pie!
Pumpkin Roll
Relay
Have
parents donate two pumpkins that children can easily roll. Then, on
a perfect fall day,
head outside with your children. Divide your class into two teams
and provide each team
with a pumpkin. At the start signal, the first child on each team
rolls the pumpkin to a
designated spot. Then he rolls the pumpkin back to the team and tags
the next child in line.
The relay continues in this manner until each child has had a chance to
roll the pumpkin.
Popcorn Pop
Have the
children watch popcorn pop. Have the children pretend to be popcorn.
Upbeat music, or a recording of popping corn may stimulate the children to
jump more.
Feather
Hop
Cut out
large feather shapes from colored paper. Laminate them
and cut them out. Place them on the floor and ask the children to hop from
one
feather to another. These may also be used at seat markers for group
time.
Turkey Hop

large turkey shapes from colored paper. Laminate them and cut them out.
Place them on the floor and ask the children to hop from one turkey to
another.
These may also be used at seat markers for group time.
Do the Turkey
Pokey
Sing the
Hokey Pokey like normal, but then the last line goes as follows:
"You do the Turkey Pokey and you gobble all around, that's what it's all
about."
Turkey Trot
(Sung
to the tune of: "Hokey Pokey")
You put your
right wing in.
You put your right wing out.
You put your right wing in,
And shake it all about.
You do the turkey trot
And you turn yourself around.
That's what it's all about.
(left wing,
drumsticks, stuffing, wattle, tail feathers, turkey body)
Turkey
Movement
Show
the children how to bend down and waddle like a turkey, as
you sing the song below, give directions for the children to dramatize.
Act like a fast turkey, slow turkey, happy turkey, and sad turkey.
(Sung
to the tune of: "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush")
Here we go
round the turkey trail,
Turkey trail, turkey trail,
Here we go round the turkey trail,
To celebrate Thanksgiving Day!
