Pictures For Words

When I talk about Native Americans with my preschool children we discuss
how some Native Americans used various pictures to tell stories. We then choose
an "Indian name" and come up with a symbol to represent it. For example, a child
who is always happy might choose the name "Little Smiles alot" and a smiley
face would be the picture representation. You would be surprised at how well the children
will remember their "Indian names" and recognize each other's name representation.

Turkey Sounds

Record each child making "Gobble, gobble" sounds.  Play the entire recording
on another day to see if the children can identify their own imitations.

Thankfulness

Encourage the children to conceptualize orally what they think the word "thankful"
means. Go around the class asking each child what they are thankful for.
Teacher should give an example of something she is thankful for.
