My Little Turkey

Cut a simple turkey head and body from brown felt.  Use a marker to draw the turkey's face.
Cut a class supply of simple feather shapes from red, blue, green, yellow, and orange felt.
Place the turkey head and body on your flannel board; then gather the children and give each
a feather.  Teach them the following song.  When a child hears his/her feather color sung,
he/she add his/her feather to the turkey.  After singing the verse for each color,
your turkey will be one beautiful bird.

(Sung to the tune of: "Short'nin' Bread")

My little turkey
Has feathers, feathers.
My little turkey
Has feathers of (red).

Five Little Turkeys

Cut 5 turkey shapes out of brown felt. Cut feather shapes out of other colors of
felt and glue them to the turkey shapes. Place all the turkey shapes on a
flannel board. Remove one shape at a  time as you recite the poem below.

Five little turkeys by the barn door.
One waddled off, then there were four.
Four little turkeys out under the tree,
One waddled off, then there were three.
Three little turkeys with nothing to do,
One waddled off, then there were two.
Two little turkeys in the noonday sun,
One waddled off, then there was one.
One little turkey -- better run away!
Soon will come Thanksgiving Day.

Turkey Feather Game

Cut five turkey body shapes and fifteen shapes out of felt. Number the turkey body shapes
from 1 to 5 and put them on a flannel board. Place the feather shapes in a pile. To play the
game, have the children take turns selecting a turkey identifying the number on it and
adding that many feathers to it.
