Paper Football

I precut football shapes beforehand,
the children glued the pieces together
to create their own paper football.
Later I had to trim off the excess white
stripes  that were sticking off the ball.

Super Bowl Graph

My husband made the Team Footballs
and we graphed their favorites by
putting their names on a piece
of masking tape and placing it
under the team they wanted to win.

Playin' Football

Each of the children took turns
throwing a soft football
(purchased from Oriental Trading)

through the goal.

Check out our cool striped floor...
we used the stripes as yard lines...
each time they made a touchdown..
they stepped back to the next
yard line and tossed the ball
 through the post again.

(See our homemade goal post below...)

Our Cheerleaders

We had two cheerleaders
(both boys and girls)
on both sides of our football
player, helping to cheer the player
on to making a touchdown.
We practiced spelling our friends
names this way...
Give me a "J", Give me an "O", Give me
an "E" what does that spell?  "JOE!"

The rest of the class sat on the
sidelines until it was their turn to be
the "quarterback" or the "cheerleaders."

Football Goal Post

To create the goal post, I attached
 wrapping paper tubes together with
masking tape.  To hold it up, I used an
empty Pringles can... placed the tube
inside and filled the can with sand.

You can also make it out of PVC pipes.

~  PARTY IDEAS ~

Super Bowl Party

Host a Preschool Super Bowl Party!
For the invites, use football-textured paper found at craft stores.
Cut this paper & white vellum into the shape of a football and join
the two together using brown leather lacing, also found at craft stores.
On the vellum, print "ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL" like the
old Monday night football theme.  Also, print the party details on to the vellum.
Gameday: (date) Kickoff: (time) Stadium: (location)
Pull out your pom poms Strap on your helmets...
Join us for some tailgate fun!

Decorate for the Party

Have the children create banners and posters for
the two teams that are playing in the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl Party Wear

On the day of your party, have students wear anything related to football... for
example, jerseys or cheerleading outfits.  Teacher can wear a referee shirt. LOL!

Football Lace Cards

Last year I cut out football shapes from brown paper, folded them
in half length wise, punched a few holes along the seam in the middle
and they laced up their balls with white yarn. Simple, but cute.

Team Balloons

To decorate your classroom,  put clusters of football-shaped mylar balloons that
are surrounded by lots of  latex balloons (of the two teams colors)  all around.

Football Toss

Throw a ball through a hula hoop.
If your children are really young, you may want parents to help out by
holding  the hoop and move it to make sure the ball actually goes through.

Dizzy Kicker

Blindfolded the children one at a time.
Spin them three times then have them kick a balloon.

Hot Football

Played just like hot potato, but with a small
football.  Pass it in a circle with music

Face Painting

Find a parent volunteer that paints well. Have them draw the child's favorite
team logo playing in the super bowl that year on their cheek using face paint.

Football Field Yard

If you want to go all out, plant winter rye grass 1-2 months before the party so you
can have a green turf. Then buy turf spray paint at Wal-Mart to paint your yard lines.

Football Pinata

Purchase a football pinata for your party.  You can find one like
what is shown above at the Oriental Trading Company website.

THANKS KRISTIN!!!

Last year I had quite a few kids in my class that were into football and
the Super Bowl...much to my "saddness". They were all Steelers fans
(I am a Brownie). Anyway, following their lead we had a Super Bowl party.
We ordered pizza, brought in a video of football that we let run while we did
other things and then played games outside with footballs. We also worked
on the attached page to make a class book. Even the kids that didn't care
or know anything about football liked it. I had the kids...if they were able...
write the name of the team and the score. Anyway, I changed the names on
the page to reflect this year's teams. It turned out pretty cute when it was all
done. Maybe someone can use it this year.
